Custom wooden rocking chair step #3
The seat has been selected for grain orientation, each joint gets hand planed just before glue up creating that invisible glue line that every woodworked strives to achieve. The back braces get glue up using a form built using mdf, each back brace in held in place with a clamping caul and 13 clamps for 24 hours. Once the glue has cured the back brace is removed and the next ones are glue up. The rockers are also glue up using the same technique but with a different form and even more clamps!
Each headrest is created using 6 pieces of wood, because this is a double rocking chair the headrest is actually made of 12 pieces. The pieces get glued up in pairs, then glued together using a special clamp called a pinch dog.
