This is the first step in building a custom wooden rocking chair, this is for a double rocking chair built from and exotic hardwood from Brazil called Lacewood. The wood has an amazing grain pattern that is very unique as well as being a very stable wood great for making custom wooden rocking chairs.
This is all the lumber required to build a rocking chair cut into blanks, much time is spent at this stage choosing which lumber will be used for each piece. We try to match the arms, seat and headrest grain patterns in the most beautiful way we can. Because of this design using a coopered headrest the grain will flow perfectly from the seat to the headrest, creating another beautiful rocking chair using what nature has to offer.
At this stage rough lumber is selected, cut to size and the templates are traced onto the rough surface, we will smooth one side flat using a jointer then proceed to cut out the traced lines using a bandsaw.
